Legalitize was born from a simple observation: law firms are full of brilliant people buried under broken software. We set out to build the platform modern legal practice actually deserves — and the firms using it are recovering thousands of hours a year.
Our Story
In 2022, Alexandra Chen walked away from her partnership at a top-ten AmLaw firm. Not because she didn't love the law — she did — but because she had spent the previous three years watching brilliant attorneys lose cases, miss filings, and burn out because their software was failing them. The tools existed for every other knowledge profession. Law had been left behind.
She partnered with Marcus Rivera, who had spent a decade building data infrastructure for intelligence agencies and financial institutions, and Dr. Priya Nair, who had been publishing research on legal language models from Carnegie Mellon. Together they assembled a team with a single mission: build the operating system that modern law firms deserve.
Legalitize launched in late 2023. Within 12 months, we were serving over 500 law firms across 40 states — from solo practitioners to regional firms with 200+ attorneys. In February 2025, we closed a $24M Series B led by Andreessen Horowitz's legal tech fund. We are building for the long term, in deep partnership with the firms we serve.

Previously Staff Engineer at Palantir where he led legal data infrastructure for Fortune 100 clients. MIT Computer Science. Holds 4 patents in document intelligence.
PhD in Natural Language Processing from Carnegie Mellon. Published 14 papers on legal language models and structured document understanding. Former AI Research Lead at Thomson Reuters.
Former CISO at two publicly traded legal tech companies. CISSP and CISM certified. 20+ years in enterprise security architecture. Led SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance programs.
What We Stand For
Every feature is designed around how attorneys actually work — not how engineers imagine they do. We have practicing lawyers embedded on our product team who veto anything that doesn't pass the real-world test.
Client confidentiality is sacred. Bank-grade encryption, SOC 2 Type II certification, and HIPAA compliance are our baseline — not premium features. Every employee undergoes background checks and security training before touching production.
We believe AI should augment attorney judgment, not supplant it. LexxAI surfaces insights, drafts documents, and flags issues — but attorneys make every call. The law is too consequential for "just trust the model."
We publish our security practices, DPA, and full compliance posture publicly. If we make a mistake, we tell you immediately and plainly. No spin, no cover-ups. Attorneys work in a world of professional obligation — we meet that standard too.
